“Over the years, respecting and tuning my circadian rhythms in response to the climate around me has made all the difference, and I share my experiences every chance I get.”

Moving to Chicago in the dead of winter shocked my circadian cycle. The cold weather meant less time outside, less sunlight and less exercise, all of which are dramatic changes to my lifestyle. I experienced insomnia, poor quality sleep, mild depression, lethargy and even digestive issues. At the time, I did not know how light and exercise could alleviate these symptoms. Instead, I turned to medication, including those of prescription strength, to treat my ailments but the side effects made me feel even worse. It took a lot of reading, research and experimentation to understand the impact of light and exercise on my natural circadian cycle. Over the years, respecting and tuning my circadian rhythms in response to the climate around me has made all the difference, and I share my experiences every chance I get.

Shortly after completing Code Platoon’s coding bootcamp, Olivia, Arcascope’s CEO, spoke to my cohort about a software engineer job opening. Naturally, I enthusiastically applied and when offered the job, I excitedly accepted. I learned so much more about circadian health by reading Arcascope’s blogs and am grateful to work in a team of talented and passionate colleagues as we develop cutting-edge technologies that improve the field of circadian medicine and help people feel, sleep and live better, healthier and happier lives.
